A SUPER-EARLY ADOPTER AND SPAWN OF SILICON ALLEY
Hello, thanks for dropping by. My name is Jackie Miao. I am a web strategist who specializes in the production of mission-critical, enterprise-level, and high-traffic web/digital products for Fortune and brand companies. Although I have a range of skills my forté is in planning, production and project management. In my decade-long career I have worn many hats ranging from being a designer, developer, planner, information architect, producer, project manager, and account manager with some interesting stories to share along the way! It might also comfort some to know that beyond the skills that were acquired over time, I am a certified PRINCE2 Practitioner as well.
HOW IT STARTED THE DOT.COM BOOM WITH THE AMERICANOS
My career began humbly in New York’s Silicon Alley and Financial District in 1998. I was working at 55 Broad as a Web Designer when I got featured on the New York Times for just being there, doing what I did. While in the United States, my most noted contribution to the industry is on the British Airways account at Agency.com. My involvement in the Concorde project as Prototype Developer and lead Site Builder helped win the agency a nationally-coveted ADDY Award for Excellence in New Media from the American Advertising Federation and some of my other work in New York include websites for Texaco, Compaq, Citibank, Wine Enthusiast, and Travel Dynamics. After a few years working and networking in New York and California, I moved back to Malaysia to start my own consultancy business.
CONSULTING IN THE FAR EAST
In 2002 I founded Centroworks Sdn. Bhd., a strategic web consultancy and development company servicing the luxury hospitality and travel sector in the Asia Pacific region. As Executive Director I oversaw new business development, strategy, planning, project management, and technical production for 6 years while the Managing Director focused on running the company. Our two main clients were FACB Berhad and Tradewinds Corporation, both Malaysian public-listed companies owning businesses in various sectors. In between projects, I was also heavily involved in other business ventures including the setting up and running of a 150-seater fusion restaurant called Charles' Place, dabbled with event management, and also had a brief moment in the limelight as a stage and TV-presenter wannabe. I enjoyed having the insight into the Asian market during my time there, but have always wanted to explore the European market.
ENJOYING THE ENGLISH WEATHER
Hence in mid-2007, I arrived in London for a glorious change of scenery. Between December 2007 and May 2008, I freelanced as Senior Interactive Producer/Project Manager at McCann Erickson London, part of McCann Worldgroup, an IPG company. My services have been used on HP, Genworth Financial, Barclay’s Premier, Statoil, Nestlé Professional, Cooperative Retail, UPS, BMW Bikes, UNEP, Mastercard, L’oreal, Cemex, Sabic Corporation, Evening Standard, XBOX and McCann Erickson internal projects.
WHAT DRIVES ME
I am most passionate about how to help clients achieve their goals online, and do so by staying very current with trends and solutions. Currently I am studying into the value of social technology through the analysis of new tools and services like Twitter, Yammer, Facebook, Seesmic, YouTube, Digg, and other newer folks on the block.
